Chef Mick Elysée is originally from Congo (both DRC and RC). He flew the civil war when he was 14 years old and found refuge in France. He enrolled in one of the best culinary school in Toulouse where he developed his special cooking skills in International cuisine, fusion dishes and molecular techniques.

Mick worked in Michelin-starred restaurants and five-stars hotels in London for more than 10 years but felt unfulfilled. That is when he started his private chef company in 2015 followed by the launch of YaSomo in 2020; “so that people could discover another side of the African cuisine” he loves to say.

Ya ● Somo (noun). That which is the most excellent, outstanding, or desirable... Originally from Congo, Lingala (lingála), is a Bantu language spoken throughout the north-western part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a large part of the Republic of the Congo.
